Description:

Working within a team based manufacturing and assembly environment, the Injection Operator is responsible for the efficient and effective handling of injection moulded parts, as well as related tasks and responsibilities that contribute to the overall wellbeing of the organization and its employees.

Entry level position with advancement opportunities available. Ability to work shifts, grade 12 or equivalent, ability to lift light to moderate parts. Full time benefits after completion of probation.

QUALITY ASSURANCE INSPECTOR

Baytech Plastics Inc., a Plastic Injection Moulder supplying automotive, construction, entertainment and environmental industries located in Midland ON, is currently seeking a qualified high-energy, self-motivated and dedicated individual for our Quality Assurance department. The company has been in business over 70 years and maintains a workforce of approximately 250 personnel.

Position:

Quality Assurance Technician/Inspector

Hourly-Unionized Position: $16.73 – $19.81

Starting wage will be dependant on experience and education.

General Description of the Position:

Working within a team based environment, the Quality Assurance Technician/Inspector is responsible for practicing the quality assurance processes, tasks and responsibilities which contribute to the efficient and safe operation of the organization and contribution to the effectiveness of all Baytech employees. QA techs are part of the leadership team on the shift with the supervisor and senior setup tech.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities:

TECHNICAL

The QA is responsible to conduct a number of technical tasks related to the Quality Assurance function. These tasks include using and instructing in the use of various gauges and other measuring devices, using the Syteline computer system, entering and manipulating data into PC – Microsoft software, taking measurements and converting between Imperial and Metric, and operation various office equipment; i.e. the telephone system. The QA is expected to lead and participate in various studies: FMEA, R&R, 8-D, and Capability Studies. He/She will perform SPC, read blueprints, monitor the traceability process, conduct production audits, roving inspections and document results.

KNOWLEDGE

In order to perform the technical tasks, the incumbent must be computer literate in Microsoft office. The candidate requires knowledge of Quality Control procedures. They are familiar with quality systems, specifically ISO 9001. Experience with injection moulded plastics, paint application and assembly operations are assets but NOT REQUIRED.

COMMUNICATION

This position requires the incumbent to have good oral and written communication skills. In addition, they must read and understand and communicate company policies, procedures and Quality systems requirements. The incumbent is expected to listen and follow directions, liaise with various departments at Baytech and explain quality requirements to all employees in the language of the company. The successful candidate must have some leadership and training skills.

SAFETY

The incumbent is expected to work in a safe and responsible manner and report all accidents and unsafe activities or conditions. The QA is required to wear appropriate safety equipment (safety glasses, safety shoes and mask or faceshield), use good housekeeping methods, and refer to MSDS sheets for safe handling practices. In addition, he/she must follow all emergency response procedures.

INTERPERSONAL

The incumbent works with other members of the Quality Assurance department and develop co-operative relationships with all employees throughout the plant environment. The Quality Assurance Inspector is required to be approachable and display a positive disposition. They will be a team player, willing to work shifts, be punctual and display a willingness to train and upgrade. The incumbent will be proactive and work independently, prioritize their work schedule, be decisive and flexible.

Physical and Work Environment

PHYSICAL DEMAND

This position requires lifting at various times. The incumbent is expected to lift parts and packaging which may weigh as much as 20 kilos. The QA is required to do extensive walking. The incumbent will require the flexibility to safely bend, reach and lift on the job. The incumbent requires the ability to conduct a visual comparison of parts by colour.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is conducted in a manufacturing environment. Noise and various air qualities exist throughout the plant. The incumbent is expected to wear appropriate safety equipment and work in cramped spaces on occasion. Overtime may be available, however it is voluntary. Shift work is required for this position. Shifts will vary and include 8 hr rotation and 12 hr shift rotation.

SUMMER STUDENTS

Plastic Injection Operator:

Job Description

Working within a team based manufacturing and assembly environment, the Injection-Operator is responsible for efficient, effective and safe operation of injection moulded parts, related tasks and responsibilities that contribute to the overall wellbeing of the organization and its employees.

We are currently looking for summer students to join our team as Plastic Injection Machine Operators. Must be 16 years and older, currently enrolled in school if you have not yet successfully completed high school, able to work nights, days, afternoons, weekends, 8 hour and 12 hour shifts.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Inspecting plastic parts based on specified criteria
  • Reading gauges such as verniers, digital gauges, etc
  • Learning the Mattec computer system
  • Basic operation of secondary equipment, cutters, checking fixtures
  • Inputting information into data system (Mattec)
  • Keeping machines on cycle, and determining part quality
  • Use correct packaging materials and apply correct labels

MILLWRIGHT – MAINTENANCE TECH

Duties:

  • Responsible for procuring, building, maintaining and troubleshooting automated accessory equipment as related to the injection moulding industry including EOAT, assembly, decorating and material handling.
  • Work closely with the manufacturing team in developing work instructions, training, process improvements and maintenance schedules. Assist in the development and validation of new and existing automation equipment.
  • Responsible for programming of all robotic and automated equipment; building electro-mechanical hydraulic and pneumatic systems for assembly; de-moulding, de-gating, decorating and material handling.
  • Training of personnel for operation of equipment.
  • Repair, troubleshoot and maintain robotic/automated equipment.
  • General duties as assigned.

Skills & Experience:

  • College diploma and/or experience equivalent along with a minimum of 5 years’ working experience maintaining injection moulding machinery/equipment, background in automation and controls. Knowledgeable in programming of various robotic systems and PLC controls, Canadian safety legislation, CSA 434-03, and PSHSR equipment reviews.
  • Hands-on mechanically, familiarity with various types of industrial equipment – conveying, forming, machining, heating/cooling, fabrication, etc. Various computer skills.
  • Candidates must have certification as an industrial mechanic (millwright) or as an industrial electrician.

INJECTION MOULDING TECHNICIAN

Major Tasks and Responsibilities:

The Injection Technician has seven major areas of responsibilities and related tasks which must be adhered to in order to achieve the goals stated above. They are as follows:

1. TECHNICAL

The incumbent is responsible to conduct a number of technical tasks related to the technical support of injection moulding machines. These tasks include reading gauges such as verniers, digital gauges etc., using the Symix and Mattec computer systems, hydraulic hand truck and tow motor. The incumbent is required to perform a number of functions relating to hoppers, dryers and loaders. These include: loading, unloading, assembling, disassembling, cleaning, purging, setting controls and performing hook ups. In addition, he/she must set up and calibrate mini blenders, set up and/or remove auxiliary equipment, operate an overhead crane, operate the material grinder, use bench grinder vices and other workplace tools, and change fuel tanks on tow motors. The Injection tech must provide relief for Injection Operators as required. The incumbent is required to answer machine bells and perform advanced troubleshooting duties. He/she will be able to perform all machine start ups, set ups for blenders and mixers, sample and start new jobs, identifying possible process improvement. The Injection tech is required to book materials in/out, identify materials from production orders, prepare PDN’s, remove production from floor, label scrap containers, make up packaging materials and prepare labels. The incumbent cleans and maintains all equipment and practices good housekeeping techniques. In addition, the Injection tech is required to perform the tasks relating to the Team Leader position as required.

2. KNOWLEDGE

In order to perform the technical tasks, the incumbent must have a general knowledge of math skills, imperial and metric, the symix and Mattec system, computer literacy, and the union contract. The Injection tech requires a familiarity with ISO 9001:2015 and general reading and writing skills. In addition, he/she must possess basic knowledge of electricity, and a general knowledge of plumbing, mould maintenance, pneumatics, hydraulics, and material grinding process. This knowledge must be both theory and practical to enable the incumbent to have an understanding of theories and background and know how to apply this knowledge. He/she will have developed an advanced knowledge of the production process.

3. COMMUNICATION

This position requires the incumbent to have good communication skills to enable him/her to record daily activities on time sheets, fill out identification tags, material identification labels, material transaction cards, process change sheets, and maintenance work orders and tool room work orders. The Injection tech is required to train operators. He/she must interpret Set Up sheets, “Night Sheets”, Method and Quality sheets, First Article reports and Supplier Processing manuals. The incumbent is required to learn to fill out set up sheets and complete mould damage reports with Team Leaders.

4. SAFETY

The incumbent is expected to work in a safe and responsible manner which includes reading and understand company safety policies and procedures, report all injuries and safety violations. He/she must be trained and understand WHMIS material, properly dispose of machine purges, wear safety equipment, use safety devices, follow posted notices and only operate machinery trained on. In addition, the Injection tech must be familiar with all exits and follow emergency response evacuation procedures.

5. INTERPERSONAL

The incumbent works with other members of the Injection Moulding Team and is expected to work shifts, maintain basic personal hygiene, be approachable and uphold Baytech values. He/she must be willing to continue to improve their knowledge and skill levels. The Injection tech must maintain a positive attitude, and be open to change.

6. LEADERSHIP

The incumbent is required to provide leadership to the Injection Moulding department by acting as a role model. The qualities relating to this which he/she is expected to exhibit include: team building, motivation, decision making, problem solving, delegation and accountability.The incumbent is expected to have a basic understanding of the principles relating to Conflict Resolution.

7. ORGANIZATIONAL

The Injection tech is required to organize the Injection Moulding Team for daily workloads and plan for production issues when he/she is fulfilling the role of the Team Leader position. He/she is required to access appropriate resources as required. In addition, the incumbent must collect, maintain and organize data properly.
